YRS Adult Workshops

The 3rd Annual Solano Youth Resiliency Summit Planning Team is excited to announce the workshops that will be available for the adult allies on Saturday, December 4, 2021. We have 8 workshops to choose from during the three sessions; some of the workshops will be youth led and others will be adult led. Navigating the Path to Health and Wellness

Presenter: Maggie Steele
The workshop's two presenters will provide information on how to strengthen resiliency to drug and alcohol use and abuse. They will also discuss “social prescriptions,” the human connections that can serve as an antidote to anxiety and depression. Additionally, this workshop will provide an interactive model that attendees can use to set and achieve goals, including their own objectives around health and wellness. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol on development, strategies for increasing resiliency in themselves and others, and a vision of how to stay on the path to health and wellness.

ACEs and Resiliency

Presenter: Sarah Sweitzer
Explore how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact learning and long-life health and well-being in children, adolescents and adults. Presenters will review recent research on the impact of ACEs on development, social problems and a range of health problems. This workshop will also incorporate ideas for trauma-informed activities to incorporate with children.

Opioids: That's Epidemic, Not Pandemic

Presenter: Arthur Camargo
You will be introduced to opioids and why they can be dangerous. You will also be introduced to the many types of opioids, including Fentanyl, which is on the rise and responsible for more deaths than any other kind of opioid! will learn about resources and that it is possible to reverse an overdose!

The Credit Strong Blueprint

Presenter: Julian Pilate-Hutcherson
Attendees will receive foundation education about simple ways that they can improve their credit today. They will receive action steps that they can implement immediately to improve their credit without hiring a credit repair specialist.

Learn the Basics Of Mindfulness Meditation

Presenter: Tina Clay
In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of how to meditate using mindfulness techniques. There will be opportunities for learning why mindfulness meditation is helpful, discussion and question and answers periods as well as time to practice the skills.

Human Trafficking and How we can fight it

Presenter: Hassan Sabbagh
This workshop will cover what human trafficking is and how it exists in our community. You will learn how to identify types of trafficking, the tactics that they use and how community members youth and adults can fight back against the epidemic of exploitation and modern slavery.

Big Tobacco Takes aim at solano county youth: and how your community can fight back

Presenter: Amaya Wooding
The tobacco industry spends billions of dollars each year targeting LGBTQ+ youth and other vulnerable communities. This workshop will teach you more about tobacco industry tactics, the situation in Solano County, and how to use your voice to advocate for policy change in Solano.

Be the Support: Mental Health Awareness & Suicide Prevention

Presenter: Kristian Skillman
1-hour interactive workshop. Participants receive a brief overview of how mental health concerns commonly present in children and adolescents. Facilitator(s) clarify how best to support a range of mental health concerns including children and adolescents who are at risk of dying by suicide. Participants are strongly encouraged to link youth whom may be at risk of dying by suicide to caring professionals. Local and national resources are provided to address deficits that may negatively impact children and adolescent mental wellness.
