Why STEM?

“In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a knowledge-based economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered acceptable in the past.” (National Science Foundation)

What is STEM Education?

STEM education is an interdisciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world, problem-based, and performance-based lessons. STEM education exemplifies the axiom "the whole is more than the sum of the parts."

Why STEM to STEAM?

In this climate of economic uncertainty, America is once again turning to innovation as the way to ensure a prosperous future.

Yet innovation remains tightly coupled with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – the STEM subjects. Art + Design are poised to transform our economy in the 21st century just as science and technology did in the last century.

We need to add Art + Design to the equation — to transform STEM into STEAM. Visit the Stem to Steam website.
