Solano County Office of Education

Art is Power, a Speaker Series for youth, is hosted by the Solano County Office of Education Youth Development Services in partnership with Nature of Sound. The Speaker Series is a collection of workshops hosted by various local, state and national artists, each workshop will focus on a different forms of art. This year's theme is IGNITE, after each workshop a social media link will be available for student participants to ignite their passion for art. Art forms include painting, hip hop and songwriting, photography, graphic design, and much more.

Workshops are designed for middle and high school students of all artistic levels. Artists will talk about technique, process and about using art to further one's cause. Art can be a powerful tool and helps build resiliency, and resilient youth are less likely to partake in risky behaviors (such as using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs). The series is funded through the Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Grant.

IGNITE DANCE WITH SARA TEMPLETON

Sara Templeton is a choreographer, teacher, and dancer based in San Francisco. She started her professional hip-hop career at sixteen, dancing with Culture Shock S.F. and L.A. and guest performing with independent artist throughout the Bay Area. While earning her dance degree at Loyola Marymount University, Sara expanded her artistry to include ballet and contemporary, and began a focused re-engagement with salsa, reggaeton, and other Latin dances connected to her Puerto Rican heritage. It was during this time that Sara truly honed in on her passion for choreography and teaching, and then ways in which the intelligence of different dance techniques could cross pollinate for the benefit of the artist. When not working on choreographic projects, Sara teaches reggaeton, hip-hop, contemporary, and ballet at various studios around the Bay Area, and runs Object For Art, an online merchandise store designed to support dance artists and dance organizations recovering financially from the COVID-19 pandemic.
