Training Opportunities
Solano County is part of Tobacco Use Prevention Education Region 4, along with Contra Costa, Alameda, Napa, Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties. SCOE Youth Development Services and our TUPE Region 4 partners offer a variety training opportunities for educators, students and community members. Trainings are free to districts and/or school sites participating in the Tier 2 Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Grant.
Additional trainings are provided by Orange County Department of Education, Stanford Reach Labs, CATCH My Breath, YVAPE, and additional organizations. SCOE TUPE staff will continue to update this training page as training opportunities become available.
MY VOICE SAVES LIVES: Engaging Young People as TUPE Peer Educators
This webinar is hosted by the California School Based Health Alliance (CSHA), it will explore the role of adults and young people as partners in school-based TUPE programs. Learn about student recruitment, training, youth-led activities, and retention. BRIEF INTERVENTION (BI)
This will be a one-day in person training, free of cost. Brief Intervention (BI) is a short-term counseling intervention that uses motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and the stages-of-change model to meet the needs of students who use alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs. THE TRIANGULUM OF CANNABIS, TOBACCO, AND E-CIGARETTE USE: Its Effects on Physical Health, Addiction, and Mental Health, and How You Can Best Help
New tobacco/nicotine and marijuana products are flooding the market, including new disposable e-cigarettes, e-cigarettes shaped like highlighters, pens, watches, and other household items, "non-nicotine" e-cigarettes, marijuana edibles, and other THC products (many of which contain high levels of THC). During this webinar you will receive an overview of these products and how to use or dual-use of these products can lead to addiction and impact mental health.

HEALTHY FUTURES
This curriculum provides the information and resources to facilitate an alternative-to-suspension (intervention) one-on-one or small group for students who were caught with vapes/e-cigarettes. Developed by Stanford Medicine and part of the Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit; students learning about the facts, harms/dangers of e-cigarettes, and receive resources on how to quit vaping.

COMPASSIONATE ADMINISTRATORS ACADEMY
This professional development opportunity is designed for new and experienced administrators, district and school site administrators, special education leaders, counselors, and more. This training will focus on Healing-Centered and Restorative Practices, Ensuring Student Engagement and Connectedness and it is linked to Effective Discipline Policies and Procedures.
This training is 4 sessions:

Participants who attend all 4 sessions will receive a Certificate of Completion.
BRIEF INTERVENTION
During this training participants will build skills of counselors and others working with youth. Brief Intervention (BI) is a short-term counseling sessions of intervention that consist of 2 to 4 sessions. The approach uses Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and the Stages of Change Model to meet the needs of students who are engaged in tobacco, marijuana, alcohol and/or other drug use; with the overall goal to reduce use and risky behaviors.
This is a 2-part session training:
- Session 1: 8:30am - 12:00pm
- Session 2: 8:30am - 12:00pm
Participants must attend both sessions.

HEALTHY FUTURES
Healthy Futures is a curriculum adapted from Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit as an alternative to suspension (ATS) option for educators. The curriculum is free and downloadable for facilitators.
