Information for Families on Children’s Early Development

To support early childhood teachers, the California Early Learning and Development System provides an integrated set of resources based on state-of-the-art information for early learning and development and best practices in early education.
The modules provided on the California Early Childhood Online (CECO) Web site enable teachers to increase content knowledge and ability to provide developmentally appropriate experiences for children in their care. Meeting the developmental needs of young children and their families requires a comprehensive approach. CECO provides access to comprehensive resources and modules in one centralized location to meet the ever-changing needs of the early childhood field.

The California Inclusion and Behavior Consultation (CIBC) Network is a professional development project funded by the Early Education and Support Division (EESD) of the California Department of Education (CDE) and is coordinated by the WestEd Center for Prevention and Early Intervention. The CIBC Network is designed to deliver technical support to early care and education programs.
The California Collaborative on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (California CSEFEL)is led by the CA CSEFEL Leadership Team which includes many state agencies and their training partners. Leadership Team members work together to promote the Teaching Pyramid Framework, resolve state-level barriers, infuse information into various professional development systems based on a common approach, and facilitate access to necessary interventions at the local level.
The Teaching Pyramid Framework has been adapted and enhanced for California from the National Center on Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (National CSEFEL). It maximizes collaboration to enhance linkages and methods for local agencies to deliver services and to connect families to appropriate interventions, including children’s mental health, Early Start, special education, and medical services.
Teaching Pyramid Framework, with its emphasis on strong relationships, support for social competence, and the prevention of challenging behaviors, is congruent with California’s social and emotional foundations for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children; the Desired Results Developmental Profile; California Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge Grant; and other quality improvement approaches.
The California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN) is brought to you by the California Department of Education, Early Education and Support Division in collaboration with the Center for Child and Family Studies at WestEd and the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA). CPIN provides high quality professional development for preschool administrators and teachers highlighting current research-based information, resources, and effective instructional practices which are focused on preparing children to flourish in early childhood and succeed in elementary school and beyond.

PITC Partners for Quality, a project of WestEd’s Center for Child and Family Studies, offers subsidized on-site training, mentoring and coaching in the PITC Philosophy to groups of infant/toddler care teachers, administrators, and family child care providers throughout California. The on-site and online training, conducted by experienced PITC-certified infant/toddler specialists, is tailored to the individual needs of each participating program and includes a comprehensive series of videos and active adult learning strategies. Trainers mentor and coach program staff on implementing the PITC philosophy and essential policies to promote high-quality responsive, relationship-based infant and toddler care.
